With a 150-year-old mansion at its centre, and 25 luxury villas nestled within its 58 acres, there are few more indulgent places to stay in the Cultural Triangle than Uga Ulagalla.

The sleek Ulagalla Pool Villas are a whopping 1380 sq ft with glass walled panoramic views, wicker chairs, king size beds draped in white, and a door leading out to a private decked area with plunge pool. They feel spacious, spoiling and secluded as they are spread out across the estate. The Deluxe Pool Villas are even more spacious at 2100 sq ft with larger living areas and a bathroom which features both a shower and bathtub. The Nikaweva Villa is ideal for a family or group due to having two double bedrooms surrounding a communal dining area. Here the 180-degree glass wall in the living room offers the most incredible views over the infinity pool and across the paddy fields.

Meals at Ulagalla are flexible, with an all-day breakfast, 24-hour room service, and both Sri Lankan and international menus at lunch and dinner. If you don’t fancy heading out to the ancient cities you can relax in your private pool, spot birds with the resident naturalist, kayak on the scenic reservoir, try your hand at archery, cycle in and around the local village, take a Sri Lankan cookery demonstration in the garden with the resort chefs, or even ride through the estate on horseback. Ulagalla really is an incredible treat and easily the best in the area.
