The River House is an artistic and exclusive riverside retreat and arguably one of Sri Lanka’s finest small hotels. It’s located on the banks of the Madhu Ganga; just a few kilometers inland from Bentota, the property is set within seven acres of luxuriant tropical gardens. The food is fantastic, flexible and can be served in different venues across the grounds. There’s a swimming pool, in room massages, kayaking on the river and a nearby-secluded beach in a small cove that you can visit.
There are only five suites, which are spacious, sleek, and adorned with Sri Lankan and Indian Art. The two cheapest rooms are the Kala and Kirinda Suite; these actually interconnect so work well for families. The Gin Suite is on the ground floor and has an outdoor shower and Jacuzzi. The Menik Suite, which sits above the Gin Suite, boasts a large balcony and plunge pool. The Walawe Suite is the most expensive but is ideal for those looking for greater seclusion as it’s set approximately 60ft from the rest of the hotel. All the suites are completely beautiful and ideal for anyone looking for a bit of peace and serenity.
