Day 1
Overnight flight to Sri Lanka.
Day 2
This morning / afternoon you will arrive into Colombo, where you will be met by your private chaffeur guide and vehicle. You will be taken directly north 2hrs to Wadumunnegedara, a rural area home to Horathapola Estate. You can relax in the beautiful grounds, by the pool, enjoy a bullock cart ride and even make use of the free bicycles.
Day 3
From Horathapola you will head north and in land to the ancient city of Anuradhapura, visiting Sigiriya en route. We find that this journey, without stops, normally takes around 4hrs.
Day 4
Today you will enjoy a tour of Anuradhapura and Mihintale.
Day 5
Today you will head approximately 4hrs north to Jaffna today, an area that has recently opened up to tourism on the island. This afternoon you will learn about Jaffna's turbulent history in our Jaffna City Tour.
Day 6
Today you will have a guided tour of the fascinating islands that sprawl off the coast to the west of Jaffna.
Day 7
From Jaffna you will drive approximately 3hrs down the east coast today, to Trincomalee. Here you can simply relax on the beach! This area is beautiful and untouched.
Day 8
This morning you might like to enjoy a Trincomalee City Tour. The remainder of your day is at your own leisure to relax.
Day 9
From Trincomalle your chaffeur driver will bring you approximately 5-6hrs inland to Kandy today, visiting The Golden Temple of Dambulla en route.
Day 10
This morning you will enjoy an Tour of Kandy. Later this afternoon you will visit the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens.
Day 11
This morning your guide will take you to the train station where you will board your train, which will take you into the luminous tea country. The train journey normally takes around 3.5hrs and is a real highlight in Sri Lanka as you pass through villages and soaring hills. On arrival your same driver will pick you up and will take you to your accommodation in either Nuwara Eliya or Hatton. This afternoon you will visit a local tea factory.
Day 12
Today you will walk through to Horton Plains National Park, a wild expanse of land with some of Sri Lanka's most incredible views. This beautiful walk can be geared to your fitness.
Day 13
You will leave the tea country today and will head approximately 3-4hrs to Yala National Park, visiting Ella en route. There are lots of wonderful accommodation options now available in Yala to choose from.
Day 14
Today you will enjoy a morning jeep safari and an afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park. Hopefully you will get to see wild elephant and even leopards.
Day 15
Today you will rise early to enjoy bird watching in Bundala National Park, also home to wild elephant. You will continue from here along the coast and onto Galle, the 17th century fort. This journey should take 4-5hrs. Hopefully you will get to see the iconic stilt fishermen en route!. You can stay inside the fort itself or on one of the beaches near by. This afternoon enjoy our Galle City Tour.
Day 16
Enjoy today at leisure.
Day 17
Enjoy today at leisure.
Day 18
Enjoy today at leisure, or if you are visiting between December and April you may want to enjoy our Whale Watching Boat Trip, as this area attracts both blue and sperm whales during this time of year!
Day 19
Enjoy today at leisure. If you are interested in Sri Lanka cuisine you might want to try our Culinary Tour of Galle Fort.
Day 20
This morning you will be driven 2.5-3hrs north from Galle back up to Colombo for your flight home after a wonderful trip through Sri Lanka. Depending on your flight time, you may need to stay in Colombo over night.
